Belgium’s Envoy to the UAE Discusses Prospects of Cooperation, Think Tanks’ Role in Forecasting the Future

TRENDS Research & Advisory, part of the TRENDS Group, hosted His Excellency Antoine Delcourt, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the United Arab Emirates, in an extensive panel discussion at the Group’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The session addressed the growing importance of scientific research and the role of forward-looking think tanks in supporting decision-making. It explored opportunities for cooperation in research and knowledge areas of mutual interest.
The session highlighted the pivotal role of think tanks and scientific research centers in analyzing the rapid geopolitical, economic, and technological shifts unfolding globally.
Participants emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships among international research institutions to produce robust knowledge and provide solutions and insights grounded in scientific evidence, thereby helping address global challenges.
Furthermore, attendees called for expanding the horizons of academic cooperation, exchanging expertise and successful experiences, and launching joint initiatives that support cultural dialogue and advance efforts to build societies based on knowledge and innovation.
For his part, the Belgian Ambassador, H.E. Antoine Delcourt, praised the influential role “TRENDS” plays in the global research landscape, stressing that think tanks have become essential partners today for understanding international variables and formulating accurate visions of the future.
His Excellency stated: “I follow with great interest the knowledge-based efforts exerted by TRENDS, and I see it as an advanced model of think tanks capable of building bridges of dialogue and providing insights that contribute to understanding complex international issues.” He noted that enhancing cooperation between research and academic institutions constitutes a fundamental pillar for supporting innovation and finding sustainable solutions to shared challenges.
