Prof. Ahmed A. Zayed

Prof. A. Zayed graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University in 1972. Since graduating, he took on different faculty positions, from Lecturer to Professor of Political Sociology. He earned his PhD in 1981 from Cairo University, after spending two years at the University of East Anglia in England collecting research material. In the academic year 1982–1983, he served as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Social Development at Bielefeld University in Germany. He has held numerous administrative and academic roles. Notably, he served as Cultural Attaché of Egypt to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University. He is currently the Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. He has lectured at many Egyptian and international universities, such as Qatar University, United Arab Emirates University, and Omdurman Islamic University. He is a member of numerous academic and scientific entities, including the International Sociological Association, the Supreme Council of Culture, the Social Research Council at the Academy of Scientific Research, the Board of the Information and Decision Support Center at the Cabinet, the Board of the National Center for Social and Criminological Research, and the Board of Trustees of Galala University, Minia National University, and the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology. Prof. Zayed has received many awards, most notably the State Prize for Scientific Excellence in Social Sciences in 2004, the State Appreciation Award in Social Sciences in 2007, the Nile Award in Social Sciences in 2025, the Cairo University Award for Excellence in Social Sciences, and the Al Owais Cultural Award. Prof. Zayed has been participating in general cultural work by writing periodically for newspapers and magazines and contributing to many conferences and symposia. He also writes bi-weekly articles for Al-Ahram newspaper.
